We’ve gathered together an impressive lineup of the leading minds in big data, distributed systems and storage. We’re happy to have not only industry leaders and academic minds, but also customers to provide insight on how they are deploying technologies like NoSQL, caching and messaging to advance their company goals and missions. Here is a sneak peek at the innovative companies that will be speaking at RICON 2015:
Booking.com
Booking.com manages 1.5 billion events every day. However, these events are schema-less and therefore a difficult task for standard analytics tools to handle. That’s why Booking.com has implemented a solution built on Riak. They’ve built a Time Series Database to address near-real-time analysis of the 1.5 billion events worth of data flow. It’s allowed Booking.com to push the boundaries of innovation and launch their Booking Now Apple Watch App while also managing hundreds of thousands of properties. Join us and Booking.com as software engineer Damien Krotkine delivers a talk about using Riak for event storage and analysis.
ShopKeep
ShopKeep recently collaborated with MasterCard to bring the EasySavings program to the 18,000 merchants they represent. As ShopKeep continues to empower independent businesses, they need to scale to meet new customer needs. Duncan Grazier, VP of engineering at ShopKeep, will be at RICON to walk attendees through how their company used a service-based distributed system – in this case Riak – to scale and drive global growth.
Comcast
Comcast must store and analyze time series data within its distributed systems architecture — which is not an easy task! However, with Riak KV and distributed monotonic clocks (DMC), Comcast has developed a scheme to keep all of its system clocks in order. Using a coordination protocol, Comcast is able to ensure one runaway system clock won’t drag an entire cluster’s logical clocks into the future.
OpenX
Programmatic advertising and marketing is catching fire. OpenX provides an efficient, high-quality platform that empowers both buyers and sellers to evolve and grow. OpenX must constantly take small proof-of-concept ideas and turn them into fully implemented products. With Riak, OpenX is able to handle statistics gathering, capacity planning and precise tooling in order to complete updates and migrations with as little impact as possible. Distributed systems architectures ensure OpenX will continue to be selected by media companies like Boston Globe Media and the New York Daily News as the programmatic media platform of choice.
Uber
Uber Pool has revolutionized the way we get around, particularly during commute hours. It’s why Hyperbahn is an apt name for Uber’s service discovery and routing framework. Those little blue lines illuminating the route? That’s the Hyperbahn at work. Riak’s distributed architecture enables Uber to implement novel features that keep their routing software and ride-sharing platform up to speed.
Tapjoy
Tapjoy, the in-app marketing and user acquisition platform, recently announced its one-billionth app install. Mobile advertising continues to change and evolve, and Tapjoy must stay ahead of the market’s dynamic nature. To do so, they’ve constructed a distributed queue on top of Riak 2.0 – this allows the Tapjoy team to let Riak take care of the most tedious parts of a distributed workload and frees them up to focus on extending functionality. Sean Kelly, software engineer at Tapjoy, believes they are pushing Riak to the limits, and will share the logic behind implementing Tapjoys queues on the Riak platform at RICON.
Each of these companies will speak in depth about the use cases highlighted above, along with additional customer use cases. RICON will be a treasure trove of distributed systems knowledge, thanks to the creativity of these organizations. We look forward to hearing more about all of the ways Riak is enabling companies to drive business needs and we hope to see you there! You can find more information about these companies and the full RICON agenda here. Please visit our Eventbrite page to purchase tickets if you haven’t already.
