Each year, 451 Research hosts an event called the Hosting and Cloud Transformation Summit. This two day event brings together a compelling combination of executives and practitioners in the hosting, cloud computing, datacenter, and Internet infrastructure sectors. The sessions are a combination of industry perspective and primary research designed to continue to educate the industry about technology trends and considerations for the upcoming year.
We are pleased that Bobby Patrick, Riak CMO, is joining Marco Coulter, Vice President of the Info Pro, 451 Research, and Dave Wright, CEO, SolidFire in a panel discussion entitled Profiting from Cloud Storage in an Era of Software-Defined Everything. Their panel will take place today (September 25th) at 12:25pm.
To quote the abstract:
“Storage is well understood as an essential part of the IT stack, but less well known is the role it could play in transforming a service provider’s ability to deliver valuable new services to customers. This event will provide an overview of how emerging approaches to ‘software defined storage’ are helping service providers cost-effectively offer everything from hosting mission critical apps in the cloud to secure file sync and share.”
Since we open-sourced Riak CS, we have spent a fair amount of time working with service providers seeking to supplement their portfolio with an object storage service offering. This is, by no means, the extent of Riak CS adoption. It does, however, represent a compelling market segment and the discussion about service providers continuing to supplement their core offerings with additional services is one that is well worth having.
For those of you not able to attend this session, we will be sharing a recording at a later date.
If you are at #HCTSNA, attend the session and then stop by the Riak booth for a chat (or t-shirt, pint glass, or Little Riak Book).
